Nia is to exercise what holistic medicine is to health care. It has many different components that help many different conditions such as asthma, depression and pregnancy.

Whether we turn to dance with steps, rave all night in clubs or aerobicize till we have buns of steel, the idea is to get moving. Once your body surrenders to movement, your soul remembers its dance.

You have to dance through the dark in order to see the light. You have to go to the source of all our wounds, the big wound, the divorce of spirit from flesh, and heal this wound if you ever want to fulfill the longing for a real self, a soulful self, a big, huge self, one that sleeps with the Beloved.

I want to take you to a place of pure magic, where everything goes and nothing stops, like a twenty-four hour roadside cafe with the best jukebox you can imagine. Only in this place, you don't listen to jazz, you become it. All your parts jam. It's the place athletes call the 'zone,' Buddhists call 'satori,' and ravers call 'trance.' I cal it The Silver Desert. It's a place of pure light that holds the dark within it. It's a place of pure rhythm that holds the stillpoint. It's a place within you.

I'm looking forward to the first class tomorrow. There have been a lot of inquiries about classes. People want to commit to their health and fitness and have fun at the same time.

The focus for the class is going to be:

COMMITMENT TO THE JOY OF MOVEMENT THIS YEAR

The beauty of Nia is that we don't only benefit physically and have a fabulous time, we can also experience personal growth.

For me personally Nia has been a great package deal for my lifestyle! A Nia class is my one-stop one-hour 'tick'. Sweat - tick. Pleasure - tick. People - tick. Laugh - tick. Stretch - tick. Know myself - tick. Be present - tick. Sense - tick. I could go on and on.

Not the pretty dance

But the claw our way back into the belly

Of the sacred, sensual animal dance

Not the nice, invisible, self-conscious shuffle

But the matted hair flying, voodoo mama

Shaman shakin’ ancient bones dance

The strip us from our casings, return our wings

Sharpen our claws and tongues dance

The shed dead cells and slip into

The luminous skin of love dance.

Not the hold our breath and wallow in the shallow end of the floor dance

But the meeting of the trinity, the body breath and beat dance

The shout hallelujah from the top of our thighs dance

The mother may I?

Yes you may take 10 giant leaps dance

The olly olly oxen free free free dance

The everyone can come to our heaven dance.

Where the kingdom’s collide

In the cathedral of flesh

To burn back into the light

To unravel, to play, to fly, to pray
